Brush Accessories
Accessories are available to hold and wash brushes, whether in the studio, in transit, or at another site. While a cup can hold brushes, often more protection is needed for storing brushes or transporting them. Hard cover storage boxes are good for long-term use. Canvas brush holders often have pockets to separate brushes, and some can be opened and stood up when painting or closed to cover the brushes when finished.
There are a variety of brush washers. While a jar or plastic tub of water can do the job, specialized water buckets may have removable inserts or places to stand brushes up to dry. Other washers collapse or fold flat for travel. Special brush soap can facilitate brush cleaning.
Mahl sticks are another accessory that can be used when painting. These sticks enable the artist to rest their hand and brush near the center of a painting without touching the surface of the paper.
